Amber-Jade Sanderson is the Western Australian Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation; Manufacturing; Skills and TAFE and the Pilbara.

She is responsible for leading the Cook Labor Government’s ambitious renewable energy transition, while also ensuring Western Australia has a highly skilled future workforce.

Amber-Jade has held senior economic, social and environmental portfolios, including Health Minister during the covid pandemic.  She has led complex reform through government and Parliament.

One of her proudest achievements is working with then Health Minister Roger Cook to deliver Western Australia’s landmark Voluntary Assisted Dying laws.  

Prior to becoming a Minister, she served as Cabinet Secretary and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier.

First elected to the Legislative Council in 2013, she successfully contested the Legislative Assembly seat of Morley in 2017.  

She is a passionate advocate for her local community in Morley.

Amber-Jade lives with her long term partner Phil, her two children and their two dogs, Frida and Magda.

Mary Burce Warlick is the Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). A retired career diplomat and former U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Ms. Warlick has held a variety of senior leadership positions at the U.S. Department of State, National Security Council and Department of Defense, serving in Washington and abroad. From 2014-2017 she served as the State Department’s Principal Deputy and Acting Special Envoy for International Energy Affairs and represented the U.S. on the IEA Governing Board. Ms. Warlick holds a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy.

Aaron was appointed Managing Director, Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers (WesCEF) on 1 November 2024.

Prior to this, Aaron held a number of executive roles across both Wesfarmers and WesCEF since joining the Wesfarmers Group in 2017. At Wesfarmers, he worked in business development before being appointed as Executive General Manager Business Development. At WesCEF, he held the roles of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer over a five-year period.

Aaron began his career in investment banking with Macquarie in Sydney, before moving into private equity funds management across the industrial and mining sectors. He has also led the commercial team and investments for a prominent Australian family office.

Aaron is currently a Director of Covalent Lithium and represents Wesfarmers’ investment in the joint venture managing the integrated Mt Holland lithium mining & refining project.

Aaron holds Mechanical Engineering (Honours) and Commerce degrees from The University of Western Australia; a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD, is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Sally McMahon is an economist with more than 25 years’ experience in energy and industry reform programs. Commencing her career investigating third-party gas access regimes, she has been an advisor and executive with economic regulators, governments, electricity and gas businesses, and investment funds in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and Canada.

Sally has held key roles in the evolution of jurisdictional energy markets and the establishment and ongoing development of the law and rules for the National Electricity and Gas Market. More recently, Sally has been Special Advisor to the Energy Coordinator in Western Australia on stage two of the Energy Transformation Strategy, an advisor on the regulatory framework for the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and is the Independent Chair of the Market Advisory Committee, the Gas Advisory Board and the Pilbara Advisory Committee in Western Australia.

Sally was appointed as part-time Councillor of the National Competition Council on 23 February 2024 for a term of 24 months. Sally was reappointed to this role for a three-year period beginning on 18 February 2026 up to and including 17 February 2029.

Sally holds an Honours degree in Economics from the Flinders University of South Australia and is a GAICD. Sally is also a member of the Economic Society of Australia and a former Chair of Women in Economics Network of WA.

Since joining Synergy in 2023, Pippa has held several executive leadership roles and has led enterprise-wide functions supporting effective decision-making, governance and organisational performance. She has also served as General Counsel and Executive General Manager, Trading & Governance.

Prior to Synergy, Pippa spent more than 12 years with Woodside Energy in a range of senior leadership positions across Legal, Risk & Compliance, Internal Audit, and People & Capability. In his role as Deputy Director General, Tim leads PoweringWA to drive the State’s renewable energy transition and coordinate the delivery of critical infrastructure across the State. Tim has extensive experience in the energy sector across both the public and private sectors, with expertise in economic regulation, market design, network service delivery, and the rapidly evolving distributed energy space.

Prior to holding the position of Deputy Director General, Tim served as Assistant Coordinator - Strategic and Consumer Energy Policy within Energy Policy WA, overseeing customer and retail policy, the regulation of emerging energy service models, and the group's contributions to national energy policy and whole-of-Government energy initiatives. Additionally, Tim led the Pilbara energy transition team, working to facilitate regional decarbonisation through the implementation of the Pilbara Energy Transition Plan. This work involves coordinating across Government and collaborating closely with Traditional Owners and industry stakeholders to develop common-use transmission infrastructure in the Pilbara, unlocking the region's best renewable resources.

As the Acting Executive Manager for Transmission Growth, Zane is accountable for enabling industry decarbonisation through major transmission expansion programs that support the connection of new large scale renewable generation and battery storage systems.

With 30 years in the electricity network industry, Zane started as an apprentice electrician and has progressed through to senior leadership positions in both government-owned and private organisations.

Before acting as the Executive Manager for Transmission Growth, Zane has been the Executive Manager for Asset Operations and has held senior roles in Operations and Works Planning and Management. A key part of his role as an Executive at Western Power is sponsoring the Focus Ability Employee Network Group and is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Council.

He holds electrical trade qualifications, Diplomas in Electro Technology and Project Management, a Masters of Business Administration and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Leadership WA Signature program.

Robert has extensive experience throughout the business investment cycle, from concept through to operations, as well as mergers and acquisitions, advisory and commercial experience across the renewables, infrastructure and resources sectors. Robert has held leadership positions in the Macquarie Capital’s African infrastructure business and Atlas Iron, and worked on the establishment of Climate Investor One, a European climate fund focused on emerging markets. Professor Peta Ashworth OAM is a renowned expert in energy, communication, stakeholder engagement, and technology assessment. She has researched public attitudes towards climate and energy technologies, including wind, carbon capture and storage (CCS), solar photovoltaic, storage, geothermal and hydrogen, for almost two decades. An accomplished speaker and educator, she actively promotes energy literacy globally and contributes to policy briefings and educational events.

Prior to joining Curtin University, Professor Ashworth was the Director of the Andrew N. Liveris Academy for Innovation and Leadership, and Chair in Sustainable Energy Futures at The University of Queensland (UQ). She was also Chair of the Queensland Hydrogen Taskforce and is a member of CSIRO Hydrogen Mission Advisory Board. Professor Ashworth brings over thirty years’ experience working in a range of senior management, consulting and research roles.

Ms Robertson was recently appointed as Managing Director and CEO of Strike Energy Limited, a vertically integrated ASX listed company with projects including gas exploration and production, and gas to electricity generation into the SWIS.

Her most recent role was Chief Operating Officer at Fortescue Limited, where she managed a broad international portfolio across metals and energy. Prior roles include Executive General Manager Energy at Mineral Resources Limited and Managing Director and CEO at Norwest Energy NL.

Through these roles, Ms Robertson has developed extensive experience in strategic planning, corporate and financial governance, managing operations, commercial and contractual matters, JV management, portfolio growth and stakeholder engagement, with a strong reputation for building and leading high performing teams to deliver exceptional outcomes.

Ms Robertson holds a Bachelor of Science, a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering, a Master of Business Administration (Oil & Gas), and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Gary has 35+ years of experience in the utility-scale coal and gas-fired power generation industry. Gary leads Power Development at APA and has experience spanning university research and development, power development, construction, engineering management, operations, asset management, and environmental oversight. Gary leads the team that is responsible for power projects at APA nationally and is responsible for development and stakeholder management for those power projects to FID. Gary has received several national and international awards for the energy projects he has led and was recognised as the WA Energy Professional of the Year in 2019.

Gary is a chartered engineer and is registered on the national engineering register. Wenona Hadingham is an experienced energy professional, having spent over a decade of her career in the sector. As Executive Director – Planning, Analysis and Decarbonisation Policy, Wenona oversees long term planning for the decarbonisation and modernisation in Western Australia's main electricity grid, the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) as well as industrial decarbonisation and economic analysis and advice.

In this role, Wenona oversaw the delivery of the SWIS Transmission Plan 2025 which provides a blueprint for the expansion of the electricity network. This will be critical to meeting the State Government’s target of net zero emissions by 2050.

Prior to joining Energy Policy WA, Wenona spent 12 years at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, advising the Government on high-profile policy issues including coal retirements. With a background in economics, she has held a variety of roles across the private sector, as well as in both Commonwealth and State Government.

Prior to his current role, Laurent served as Plant Manager at Yara Cartagena in Colombia, managing 300 employees and 700 permanent contractors. His leadership extended to complex production processes, including ammonia, nitric acid, and NPK granulation. Before that, he held plant management positions at Yara Montoir de Bretagne in France and Yara Rio Grande in Brazil, where he oversaw large teams and production units.

Laurent's expertise spans across various fertiliser production processes, including ammonium nitrate, calcium nitrate, and NPKs. His early career included roles in engineering, project management, and commissioning of granulation units, where he successfully led large-scale projects and plant start-ups.

Javier Savolainen is Market Development Manager for Wärtsilä Energy, based in Singapore, supporting utilities, developers, and stakeholders across Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. His work focuses on the planning and deployment of flexible engine power plants that help power systems accommodate increasing shares of renewable energy while maintaining reliability and affordability.

With experience supporting power generation projects across Australia and internationally, Javier works at the intersection of technology, markets, and project development. He is passionate about practical solutions that enable coal retirement, strengthen grid resilience, and accelerate the transition towards a 100% renewable energy future.

Curtin University

Dr Maureen Boyle has over 15 years interdisciplinary experience in the energy and development sectors nationally and internationally, with extensive experience collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders across Australia’s energy sector. Her career includes roles in government policy (state and federal), the renewable energy industry, and the not-for-profit sector.

Prior to joining Curtin University, Maureen was a Research Fellow with the Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program at the Australian National University, and with the University of Tasmania (Perth based). In the latter role, she served as the main social researcher on Project Symphony, a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) pilot in Western Australia, investigating household participation in the VPP.

Maureen completed her doctorate at Curtin University in 2021, which investigated the influence of transnational actors on energy development in Cambodia. Her research draws on academic training in sustainable development and international relations and is underpinned by a commitment to distributive and procedural fairness with applied, policy relevant outcomes.

Dr Muhammad Rizwan Azhar is the Discipline coordinator for Chemical, Renewable Energy and Resources in the School of Engineering at Edith Cowan University and a researcher specialising in battery technologies, battery energy storage systems, critical materials, and the battery circular economy. His research spans battery manufacturing, safety, degradation, diagnostics, recycling, second-life batteries, and sustainable critical material recovery, with a strong focus on translating research into industry and government outcomes. He actively collaborates with industry, government agencies, and international partners on battery innovation, commercialisation, and workforce development, and regularly provides expert commentary on energy transition and battery technologies.

Megan Allan is Head of Distribution Energy Transition at Western Power, where she leads programs focused on the future of WA's electricity network. With more than 16 years of experience across energy transition, customer engagement, government relations and strategic programs, Megan has helped drive some of Western Australia's most significant distributed energy initiatives including the WA DER Roadmap, Project Symphony and now Project Jupiter. Her work focuses on how technologies such as rooftop solar, batteries and electric vehicles can be integrated into the power system to support a cleaner and more reliable energy future. In recognition of her leadership and contribution to the sector, Megan was recently awarded the WA Women in Energy Trailblazer Award for her role in driving innovation while bringing people together to create lasting impact.

Jean-Philippe “JP” Montandon is an energy market specialist with more than two decades’ experience across electricity operations, trading, market modelling and distributed energy resources.

He has worked across the National Electricity Market and Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market, bringing together practical operational experience with deep commercial and analytical expertise. His career has included roles spanning real-time power system operations, wholesale energy trading, financial risk, supply planning and market forecasting.

JP has played a key role in Western Australia’s distributed energy transition, supporting the development and implementation of DER and virtual power plant initiatives including Project Symphony, Project Jupiter and Project Encore. He has worked closely with market bodies, government, networks and retailers to help translate complex market and system requirements into practical reform and operational outcomes.

Earlier in his career, JP held energy trading, modelling and analytical roles with organisations including AEMO, Synergy, Power Ledger, Perth Energy, Alinta Energy, Integral Energy and Westpac. He holds postgraduate qualifications in applied finance and has completed specialist training in electricity markets and power system operations. Stephen Eliot is the Executive Director, Commercial within the Energy Policy WA group at the Department of Energy and Economic Development.

Stephen has over 25 years’ experience in policy development and implementation, regulatory change, and market development and operations in the energy sector, across Australia and Canada.

Stephen was previously the Executive Officer for the Rule Change Panel and CEO of REMCo (the gas retail market operator for Western Australia and South Australia). In his current role, Stephen oversees the Commercial and Government Trading Enterprise (GTE) Oversight units and Energy Policy WA.

Ty Theodore is General Manager of Australia’s first Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence (CESNCE), established to build the workforce needed to support the transition to a clean energy economy. With a strong background in strategic partnerships and training development in the TAFE and university sectors, Ty leads the Centre to drive skills development through industry and stakeholder collaboration, product and program design, and communications. Ty supports an Advisory Board of experts appointed to advise the Government and guide the work of the CESNCE to develop and innovate training and workforce development solutions for current and emerging clean energy industries. The CESNCE is a joint initiative between the Australian and Western Australian Governments under the National Skills Agreement.
