Game Changer? The EU’s Net Zero Industry Act and its implications for Carbon Management in Australia
Event details coming soon.
The European Union’s Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) is an important and timely development that holds implications for the future of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and CCS-based carbon dioxide removal. This talk will provide a comprehensive overview of Article 18 of the Act which introduced an unprecedented obligation on EU oil and gas producers to contribute toward the EU’s target of 50 million tonnes of annual CO2 injection capacity to be achieved by 2030. Drawing on these EU developments, together with insights from recent developments in CCS policy in the UK, and the US, this session will draw out lessons, implications, and opportunities for Australia to inform and guide future strategies for carbon management.

The forward look for EV: Grid impact, Public charging infrastructure, and V2G
Event details coming soon.
As EV uptake scales and displaces petrol and diesel consumption, demand for electrical energy will rise – so, we’ll definitely need more generation. The timing of *when* this energy is consumed is going to be a key determinant in the degree to which we need to augment our distribution networks. Sensible retail tariffs, and consumer education, can go a long way towards minimising the load presented by EVs at peak time. We’ll showcase the things that have worked really well over East in this regard.
Public charging infrastructure has been rolled out at serious scale in WA in the last two years. Multiple projects have been run, backed by the WA state government – in particular, the WA EV network, being delivered by Synergy and Horizon Power, to cover the South West and the route from Eucla all the way around to Kununarra. We’re about 1% of the way through the EV transition, so there’s plenty more to do – we’ll talk about next steps, and what’s going to be needed as we go after the next 99%.
V2G holds incredible potential for the energy system. We’ll talk about the possible scale of it, and what will be needed to unlock that potential.
